Another Kennedy in the White House?

Charles-E.-Schumer.gifHere we go again. This time around New York Democrat Sen. Charles E. Schumer is the orchestrator.

He is quietly laying the groundwork for Victoria Reggie (Vicki) Kennedy to run against Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown in 2012, according to published reports in Washington and New York.

Vicki Kennedy is the wife of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy. A lawyer from a powerful political family in Louisiana, she  married into the Kennedy dynasty in 1992.  Brown comes up for re-election in 2012.

Vicki Kennedy decided against running for her husband's seat last year and has told confidants she has no plans to run this time, but she still has maintained a public profile by campaigning for other candidates and appearing at political events, according to The Washington Post.

Vicky-Kennedy.jpgThe Democrats desperately want to retake the seat that was held by Kennedy since 1962 until Brown upset Attorney General Martha Coakley in the 2009 special election.

Kennedy clan members, however, fear that a campaign against the popular Brown would divert her from promoting her late husband's legacy.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) one of Edward Kennedy's children, told the Post that he hoped his stepmother would stay focused on raising money for the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Senate, an organization whose aim is to inspire future leaders.

We think Patrick Kennedy is right.  The Kennedy family has given enough to this nation - in leadership and lives.

The Democrats, sensing a drubbing in the Nov. 2 congressional elections, need a lifeline at this time.  They haven't totally convinced the country they can lead - and neither have the Republicans.

What do you think?
